Horticulture & Environment

The Horticulture and Environment Department is the key outer east Melbourne provider of quality education and training in the areas of environmental sciences, horticulture, sustainability and viticulture.

Programs are offered at our Lilydale and Wantirna campuses, as well as being customised for industry and delivered in the workplace or community venues.

Facilities include a thriving horticulture complex, with plant sciences and computer laboratory and landscaped gardens at Wantirna, and a modern teaching facility at Lilydale.

Experienced and qualified staff deliver training at short course, seminar, certificate and diploma level. Training pathways enable students to progress from pre-apprenticeships, traineeships and apprenticeships, through to operator, technician, supervisor and management levels.

Most courses are now based on industry identified competency standards which directly align to position descriptions and jobs in the workplace. Each staff member has a particular focus on an industry sector and keeps up-to-date with trends and developments by involvement with peak industry bodies and associations. These valuable links, along with practical experience including the creation of a multi-award winning display at the annual Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, enhance employment opportunities for students.
