Rights, responsibilities and age restrictions

Know your rights

You have the right to:

  • a safe and healthy work and training environment
  • quality training, assessment and supervision
  • basic industrial standards such as sick leave, holiday pay and superannuation
  • raise issues or problems in your workplace and at TAFE
  • join a trade union and be represented by union officials

Know your responsibilities

You must:

  • take an active role in the development and implementation of your training plan
  • follow the conditions set out in your training contract and training plan
  • attend TAFE when you are enrolled for training that is held there
  • work under instruction at agreed working times
  • follow your employer’s rules on health and safety
  • keep a record of your achievements, both at work and in training.

Attendance at Swinburne

If you are enrolled at Swinburne for off-the-job training, you must attend scheduled classes.

Non-attendance without approval is seen as a breach of your training contract and could result in your employer seeking to cancel your apprenticeship or traineeship.

Over 15

You must be 15 years of age or over to do an apprenticeship or traineeship.
