Certifcate III and IV in Financial Services

The Department of Financial Services is involved in a large project with the Victorian Work Cover Authority (VWA) involving pilot programs for the Certificate III and IV in Financial Services. They are developing flexible delivery models and customised learning guides for both programs. Dianne Kelly is the project co-ordinator.

The Certificate III is a traineeship program incorporating a mix of workplace and on-campus delivery for new workers in the financial services industry using a combination of Swinburne teachers and industry experts. Since August last year 15 units have been developed and delivered to a pilot group of VWA trainees and all indications are that the program has been highly successful. The Prahran Campus pilot will finish at the end of the month and will be evaluated for full course delivery next year.

The Certificate IV program, aimed at existing workers has just started. Twenty-four employees from six insurance companies have begun studying with Swinburne for a Certificate IV in Financial Services.

The program is delivered using monthly workshops that are facilitated by Swinburne staff with involvement from industry experts in the workshops and in the workplace.

The first workshop was held in May 2005 and the first group of students will finish in April 2006.
