Welcome to CALD
The Centre for Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD) offers adult students basic literacy,
numeracy, language and IT skills to enhance employability, settlement and community
connectedness. CALD works to support refugees
and newly arrived migrants to settle successfully
in Australia and works with all levels of government
and community to assist students to achieve full economic and social participation.
Who are our students?
Migrant English students include adults who:
- want to study AMEP and LLNP programs
- have completed their AMEP settlement hours but need to improve their English skills in order to obtain work
- have recently arrived to Australia but not AMEP eligible and need to improve their English language skills to help them find employment
- may have significant training/qualifications in their first language but need to improve their English in order to obtain employment in Australia.
General Education students include adults who:
- need to improve or update their reading, writing, maths and computer skills in order to gain employment or go on to further training or education
- were early school leavers, had interrupted schooling, or had learning difficulties
- have non-English backgrounds and need to improve their English skills, especially their reading, writing, maths and computing
