Centre for Health & Wellbeing

Regional and Rural Health

The health of populations living in rural and remote areas of Australia is commonly perceived as being poorer than those living in capital cities and other metropolitan areas. There is also evidence that medical services in rural and remote Australia are not as accessible as in metropolitan areas and that rural populations are exposed to different health risks.

The Centre for Health and Wellbeing aims to understand the unique health and community needs of rural areas and provide the appropriate support, education and training to improve their health status.

Projected Activities for 2006

bullet An examination of the complementary health industry in regional Victoria

bullet Determining the health contributions of rural women to their communities

bullet Investigating barriers to older men accessing health services in metropolitan and regional areas
