VCAL

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) has been designed with the needs of young people in Years 11 and 12 in mind. It is offered at both Intermediate and Senior levels.
VCAL is a Victorian senior secondary certificate that sits alongside the VCE and is based on applied learning.
The VCAL program is composed of four learning strands at an Intermediate level:
Literacy and Numeracy
Personal development skills
Work-related skills
Industry specific skills
and five learning strands at a Senior level:
Literacy and Numeracy
Personal development skills
Work-related skills
Industry specific skills
Skills for further study
Each learning strand is made up of TAFE and/or VCE accredited modules and courses. Students need to undertake studies from all four strands.

VCAL Multimedia - incorporating Certificate II in Creative Industries (Media)
The Certificate II in Creative Industries (Media) is suited for beginners with no or little multimedia experience, as well as those wishing to become familiar with core strategic areas of multimedia.This course aims to provide foundation skills in digital media design and related interactive multimedia studies. The use of industry-standard interactive multimedia software applications will provide you with entry-level skills for the media industry and further training courses. This themed VCAL is delivered at an Intermediate level at both Prahran & Wantirna campuses.
VCAL Carpentry - incorporating Certificate II in Building and Construction
(Carpentry)Carpenters are skilled craftsmen working with wood in the construction industry. There is significant manual labour involved. The work will be conducted mainly out of doors, especially during the early construction phase of the roof and wall frames of a building. This course offers the student an opportunity to participate in a broad based training program relating to housing and commercial construction with a view to gaining an apprenticeship. The Certificate II in Building and Construction may lead to an apprenticeship and/or provide a progression to Certificate III or IV. This themed VCAL is delivered at an Intermediate level at Croydon campus.
VCAL Retail Cosmetic - incorporating Certificate II in Retail Cosmetic Services
Learn the skills of make-up techniques, the ability to demonstrate skin care products to customers and the skills required to work in a retail environment. It provides as much practical learning as possible, and will teach skills that can be used in the workplace now. This themed VCAL is delivered at an Intermediate level at Croydon campus.
VCAL Automotive - incorporating Certificate II in Automotive Technology Studies
The automotive industry provides a diverse career path. A trained mechanic learns the skills of an electrician, plumber and gas fitter, welder, fitter and turner, electronics diagnostician, computer operator, and customer service representative. This course offers an opportunity for students to participate in entry-level studies with a view to a career in automotive or automotive-related industries. The Certificate II in Automotive Technology Studies may lead to an apprenticeship and/or provide a progression to Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma courses. This themed VCAL is delivered at an Intermediate level at Wantirna campus.
VCAL Business/IT - incorporating Certificate II in Business
The aim of the course is to develop basic computing and administrative skills for the workplace at entry level. This themed VCAL is delivered at an Intermediate level at Croydon campus.
VCAL Business - incorporating Certificate III in Business
This course combines studies in entry level skill areas in business, including word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing and the internet. This themed VCAL is delivered at a Senior level at Wantirna, Croydon and Prahran campuses.
VCAL Young Mum’s Program - incorporating Certificate II in Business
This program also enables young mothers, aged 15 to 18, to attend and continue their education with their babies. The students are able to attend the core units of the program and take their babies to class with them. This course combines studies in entry level skill areas in business, including word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing and the internet. This themed VCAL is delivered at an Intermediate level at Croydon campus.
