VET in the VCE

Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the VCE is a government initiative that offers students a chance to complete their VCE or VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) at school while undertaking vocational studies. The programs are either delivered on campus at Swinburne, or in a shared delivery mode with a secondary school. In some cases the delivery will be entirely at the secondary school under the auspice of Swinburne. Swinburne TAFE has been involved in the VET in the VCE program since its inception in 1994. The staff at Swinburne enjoys working with our secondary school colleagues to ensure a caring and supportive environment for the students who have chosen vocational training in their VCE or VCAL.
Students who successfully complete a VCE or VCAL with a vocational component have some advantages worth considering:

  • Students undertaking year 12 may successfully complete two certificates – VCE or VCAL and a nationally recognised vocational qualification
  • Vocational qualifications articulate students directly into further study such as Certificate III, Certificate IV or Diploma Level
  • Improved opportunities for gaining employment in the students’ chose area by providing links with industry.

Why Choose Swinburne?

Swinburne is recognised as the best in the country after winning 'Large Training Provider of the Year' at the Australian Training Awards. This adds to our sweep at the Victorian Training Awards where we won the 'Large Training Provider of the Year', 'Training Initiative of the Year' for the Swinburne Young Mum’s VCAL program and 'Victorian Trainee of the Year'.

As an intersectoral institution, Swinburne is able to capitalise on the advantages of operating at both TAFE and Higher Education levels. Students are provided with advanced credit transfer systems known as Pathways Direct and the Guaranteed Entry Scheme (GES). See the Swinburne website www.future.swinburne.edu.au/pathways/ges for further information. This means it has never been easier to move between courses offered by TAFE and University.
