First Stop

First Stop is a free service that helps young people make decisions about further education, training and employment pathways. First Stop acts as the first point of contact for young people who require assistance and information about the options in training and education available to them.

Providing personalised assistance to meet individual needs, First Stop is a youth-friendly careers and pathways resource centre.

With regular up to date information on training and career options, First Stop caters to the needs of young people as well as referring them to other support services.

First Stop has services based at Croydon, Wantirna and Prahran campuses.

All sites are easily accessible by public transport and have disabled access.

CGEA

The CGEA (Certificates in General Education for Adults) has been designed to allow student aged 15+, who have not completed secondary education, to improve their literacy, numeracy and general education skills.

The Certificates provide a range of educational opportunities for youth and offer pathways into our VCAL course, pre-apprenticeships, employment, further training and traineeships.

VCAL

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) has been designed with the needs of young people in Years 11 and 12 in mind. It is offered at both Intermediate and Senior levels. VCAL is a Victorian senior secondary certificate that sits alongside the VCE and is based on applied learning.

The VCAL program is composed of four learning strands at an Intermediate level:

  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Personal development skills
  • Work-related skills
  • Industry specific skills

With an additional learning strand of Skills for Further Study at a Senior level.

Swinburne offers many themed VCAL programs enabling students to complete both a vocational Certificate and their core VCAL units concurrently.
