The TAFE School of Engineering, Technology and Trades in the Swinburne
University TAFE Division consists of six teaching teams operating
across five campuses. The composition of the teams is flexible to
reflect the optimum operational needs of the areas concerned. Therefore,
some teams operate along geographic lines whilst others are configured
along discipline lines. Four managers with school-wide functional
responsibilities support these teams. The Business Operations Manager
oversees the administrative staff and is responsible for efficient
and effective service to internal and external customers; the Performance
and Development Manager oversees the legislative and quality standards
compliance of the school, as well as new business development; the
Teaching and Learning Manager is responsible for the development,
implementation and quality of educational programs whilst the Teaching
Operations Manager supports the day to day operations of the team
and manages staff and teaching performance targets.
The Centre for New Manufacturing (CNM) is a specialist centre within
the school established following the 2002 Ministerial statement
“Knowledge and Skills for the Innovation Economy”. The
CNM works closely with industry and research groups to foster the
uptake of new and emerging technologies into training for Victorian
manufacturing and engineering sectors.
The teams and Matrix units have a high degree of autonomy but are
highly cooperative in their operation to ensure that the needs of
students, the team and the school are met. In the first instance,
responsibility for this rests with the managers and ultimately the
School Director.
