Certificate III in General Construction (Bricklaying/Blocklaying)
Swinburne TAFE engineering alumnus, Jesse Townsend has taken out three awards at the 2008 Master Builders Apprentice of the Year Awards, including the impressive title Apprentice of the Year in Bricklaying/Blocklaying.
To add to his list of credentials, Jesse has been awarded Swinburne TAFE’s Best Third Year Bricklaying Apprentice. These awards were the latest in a string of awards won by Jesse, including Best First and Second Year Bricklaying Apprentice at Swinburne.
“Hard work, attention to detail and pride in my work has got me to where I am today,” said Jesse.
After leaving high school, Jesse began working as an apprentice bricklayer for Brian Lee Bricklaying whilst undertaking a Certificate III in General Construction (Bricklaying/ Blocklaying) at Swinburne TAFE.
“Swinburne TAFE kept my standard of brickwork high, always expecting my best work. This definitely helped throughout my apprenticeship, and now in my own business,” said Jesse.
Jesse established his own business, J.T Bricklaying, in 2007. At only 20 years of age, Jesse has his own apprentice and builds homes for Porter Davis Homes Lifestyle.
“Within the next couple of years I hope to have three to five other people working for me in a successful business. I also plan on obtaining my building certificate part-time with Swinburne in the next couple of years,” said Jesse.
Jesse will be back at Swinburne TAFE over the next two months to perfect his bricklaying skills before representing Victoria in bricklaying at the WorldSkills Australia National Competition.
