Apprenticeship in Nursery Production
Dale Creed can’t tell you when his interest in horticulture began. But at some point he was smart enough to turn a passion into a profession. Now this former student is promising to make quite an impact in the industry. “I think I’ve always been interested in gardening,’ says Dale. ‘There weren’t any influences on me really – I just started doing it.”
He is certainly proof that passion plus initiative can open some very interesting industry doors. He went overseas after completing an Apprenticeship in Nursery Production and was invited to work at Clootwijck Nurseries in the Netherlands (the Clootwijck Nurseries Group is one of the largest certified organic ornamental tree nurseries in Europe). We caught up with him when he returned to Australia in August 2008 after 2 years away. After a visit with family and friends, Dale has returned to The Netherlands. ‘I’m hoping for a renewal of my contract at Clootwijck, for another two years,’ he says with a big smile.
