Prepare to Study

In order to faciliate appropriate induction into the learning support services available and to enable access to the use of information and communication technologies at Swinburne, all TAFE students starting a new accredited course will be enrolled in the unit 'Prepare to Study' in 2008. This means that all domestic and international students commencing accredited courses from AQF level 1-6 will be enrolled in this Unit. Furthermore, students enrolled in Swinburne recognised programs of accredited training, registered via QTAFE16 will also be required to complete the Unit.

This will ensure course level student induction to the areas of:

  • staff/student communication protocols
  • attendance requirements and expectations
  • unit specific information
  • approach to learning and teaching
  • university requirements and expectations
  • library information
  • language and literacy information
  • ICT information including WebCT
  • support services available

Process

Enrolment

Each student will be enrolled in the unit VBQU044 - Prepare to Study' which is from the Course in Concurrent Study.

There will be no additional cost to students, and each department will be responsible for the facilitation of this unit. Fee for service students may incur a charge for the unit. Please note that students need only complete this unit once, and not in subsequent course enrolments.

Each department will be responsible for the facilitation of this unit. The e-learning leader from each department will co-ordinate the delivery of this Unit with support from the Centre for Development of VET Practice (formerly Innovation in Education)

Results

In 2008, teachers and students will use the Prepare to Study WebCT shell for recording and accessing student results through Gradebook and MyGrades.
