Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering
Hai Nguyen completed the Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering in 2006. In his final semester of the course he was recruited by IBM and is still working there as an IT specialist. Hai works as a point of contact for specialized work with multiple large government departments throughout Australia.
When choosing a place to study Hai was looking for a course that covered a broad range of technologies and roles within IT but also had a strong technical focus. He reveals that “the course at Swinburne met and exceeded all of my expectations providing me with strong practical skills that prepared me for work in the real world”. He chose Swinburne because it provided a pathway from TAFE to University which was exactly what he wanted at the time.
Hai believes that working in teams for many assignments gave him an understanding of the importance of team work and the need to communicate effectively within the workplace. His favourite aspect of the course was that he was able to gain exposure to specific topics and then focus on building his practical skills through tutorials.
Hai considers that his qualification has provided him with confidence and skills credibility. Hai plans to continue improving his skills as long as technology continues to change. He is currently studying part time at University which is paid for by his company.
