Diploma of Network Engineering
After finishing secondary school with an ENTER score of 99.65, I was offered a full scholarship for an Information Technology course at University. Unfortunately it was not what I expected as it did not provide information relevant to the career path I had chosen. For the first time in my life I found study awful!
I investigated other options and decided that a TAFE course was more likely to give me the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the IT industry. I applied to study the Diploma of Network Engineering at Swinburne University, I loved the course from the very first day. The teachers were fantastic, and despite being the only girl in my class I found my two years very rewarding and was quite sad to leave.
In the last few weeks of my Network Engineering course I was offered at job at Monash University in the Information Technology Services Division as a Client Services Officer. I have a really good manager and great colleagues, and have had lots of opportunities to further develop my knowledge. Since starting here I have obtained my CNA (Certified Novell Administrator), ITIL Foundation Level Certificate and have also completed many local training courses. I have recently completed my Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment, which will allow me to train other staff at the University. I also hope one day to be able to use this qualification to do some part-time IT training in the TAFE system.
I really love my job here at Monash and the skills I learned at TAFE definitely helped me get the job and contribute to my team.
