'Spray It' engages young people

Getting young people involved in positive change was a focus of the ‘Spray It’ airbrushing project, an initiative of the Knox City Council and Glen Park Community Centre.

‘Spray It’ involved local community groups creating a mural portraying a timeline of Bayswater's history from the 1800s until the present day. The project involved VCAL students from Swinburne TAFE, students from KYM Employment Services and dance school Leaps and Bounds.

VCAL teacher Marina Makushev said the Swinburne students have found the project worthwhile, as it has given them a chance to develop their skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving and initiative. Swinburne student Chloe Rance said she found it a good opportunity. “I’ve grown up in the Bayswater area and wanted to give something back,” she said.
