The School of Social Sciences is vital to the mission of Swinburne, its TAFE, Higher Education and Swinburne at Lilydale divisions. It is critical in this multisector university's aim to achieve the right balance across competing demands and ambitions for the community and industry we serve.

The School trains people to provide excellent and accessible community, health and recreation services for the communities and industries of Victoria and beyond. It provides training at all levels, for diverse client groups, creating pathways into education and employment. The School recognises the absolute importance of taking care of its own staff as it trains people for services dealing with community health, well-being and sustainability. In its work, the School acknowledges it must provide value for the public investment in training, and looks to foster creativity in all that it does.
